A native of Denver, Colorado, tenor Jonathan Hodel has appeared in opera, concert and oratorio in the United States and Europe. During the past two seasons, Mr. Hodel added several new roles to his expanding dramatic repertoire, including the title role in Offenbach's Les Contes D'Hoffmann, Ricardo in Verdi's Un Ballo in Maschera and in a double bill, Luigi in Puccini's Il Tabarro and Canio in Leoncavallo's I Pagliacci with Houston's Opera in the Heights. On a lighter note, he returned to Houston at short notice, filling in for another tenor in the role of Eisenstein in Johann Strauss Jr.'s, operetta, Die Fledermaus.

Recent seasons have included such diverse repertoire as Rodolfo in Puccini's La Bohème with St. Petersburg Opera, Pollione in Bellini's Norma with South Florida Opera, Radames in Verdi's Aïda with Opera Fort Collins, Pinkerton in Puccini's Madama Butterfly with both Asheville Lyric Opera and the Mansfield Symphony, Judge Danforth in Ward's The Crucible with Opera San Jose and Don Jose in Bizet's Carmen for Asheville Lyric Opera.

In 2003, Mr. Hodel concluded a four year residency with Opera San José, during which time he was seen in many roles, including Manrico in Verdi's Il trovatore, the title role in Gounod's Faust, Pinkerton in Puccini's Madama Butterfly, Des Grieux in Massenet's Manon, Fenton in Verdi's Falstaff, Rodolfo in Puccini's La Bohème, the Duke in Verdi's Rigoletto, Nemorino in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore, Lensky in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, Alfredo Verdi's La Traviata and Don Jose in Bizet's Carmen.

Past repertoire includes Rodolfo in Puccini's La Bohème with the Heschise-Stattstheater in Wiesbaden, Germany and with Asheville Lyric Opera, Manrico in Verdi's Il trovatore with the Compagnia d'opera italiana di Milano international opera tour and the Duca Mantua in Verdi's Rigoletto for Bayshore Lyric Opera. He has appeared with the Pittsburgh Opera, the Pine Mountain Music Festival and Opera Theatre of Lucca in Lucca, Italy. He was an apprentice artist with Central City Opera, Opera Theater of Saint Louis and the John E. Connelly Pittsburgh Opera Center at Duquesne, where he performed the role of Rinuccio in the world premier of Michael Ching's, Buoso's Ghost. While at Indiana University, Mr Hodel performed many leading roles including the prince in The Love for Three Oranges, and was fortunate to appear as Count Almaviva in the third production ever of Corgliano's modern masterpiece, The Ghosts of Versailles.

As soloist, Mr. Hodel has recently performed Mendelssohn's Lobgesang and Verdi's Requiem with the Württenbergishe Philharmonie, Reutlingen, Germany, Verdi's Requiem with the Sacramento Choral Society and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the Boulder Philharmonic. Other concert works include Bach's Mattheus Passion, Johannes Passion and Weihnachts Oratorium, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and Choral Fantasy, Berlioz's Te Deum, Britten's St. Nicolas, Handel's Messiah, Mozart's Requiem, Rachmaninov's The Bells and Verdi's Requiem.

Mr. Hodel's solo concerts have included Schubert's Die Schöne Müllerin, Schumann's Dichterliebe, Beethoven's An die ferne Geliebte and Liszt's Tre Sonetti di Petrarca.
